Problems with the heart's structure are known as congenital heart defects (CHDs). Congenital refers to conditions that exist from birth. When a baby's heart doesn't develop normally during pregnancy, several problems take place. The most typical kind of birth abnormality is congenital cardiac abnormalities. The way the heart pumps blood can be altered by congenital cardiac abnormalities. These might cause blood to move too slowly, in the wrong direction, or entirely stop. Congenital heart abnormalities can range in severity from relatively minor issues that never require treatment to issues that are life-threatening at birth. Critical congenital heart disease refers to the most severe congenital heart abnormalities. Surgery is typically required within the first year of life for infants with these abnormalities. Yet, the signs of less severe heart abnormalities can not become apparent until adolescence or age.
